Arts Integration

Empowering Minds,

Igniting Creativity.

What is Arts integration?

Arts integration is an approach to teaching that integrates the fine and performing arts as primary pathways to learning. Students engage in a creative process that connects an art form and another subject area to demonstrate understanding.

Arts integration at The Birches Academy refers to the incorporation of arts education into the overall curriculum to enhance learning experiences. It involves blending arts disciplines, such as visual arts, music, dance, and theater, with traditional academic subjects like math, science, language arts, and social studies. The goal is to create a more holistic and engaging learning environment that fosters creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration among students.

Our educators craft and design interdisciplinary lessons that integrate arts seamlessly into various subjects. For example, students might learn about historical events through drama, express mathematical concepts through visual arts, or explore scientific principles through music. This approach aims to make learning more relevant, meaningful, and enjoyable for students while promoting a well-rounded education.

Arts integration aligns with the principles at The Birches Academy- a public charter school, in which we have more flexibility in designing our curriculum compared to traditional public schools. It allows our educators to tailor their teaching methods to the unique needs and goals of our school, fostering innovation and creativity in education.
