Physical Education

A child in a turquoise jacket and brown boots faces two teenagers standing outside on a paved surface near a building. One teenager is wearing a Christmas hat and green pom-pom.
Two children practicing martial arts outdoors, one holding focus pads. The child in red has pads on both arms, while the child in pink throws a punch. They are in a parking lot with grassy areas in the background.

Why is physical education important in schools? Physical education provides cognitive content and instruction designed to develop motor skills, knowledge, and behaviors for physical activity and physical fitness.

At The Birches Academy, we have taken advantage of being a K-8 school by creating a peer leader program where older students can mentor younger students. This allows older students to be role models and share their knowledge and learn leadership skills. The younger students learn self-confidence and communication skills from the older students.
